Caravan of dialogues for peace - Emerging from our solitudes

Date:
February 1, 2009 - December 31, 2010
Location:
Montreal, all regions of Quebec and across Canada, where there is interest and need for the project.

Method

This project has three phases. Phase I extending to end of spring 2010 aims to encourage the creation of regional coordinating and preparatory committees of persons and partners of conviction leading to the Caravan stopovers. In Phase II during autumn 2010 the Caravan will be stopping in various regions of Quebec. Phase III will consist of the further development of the network of intercultural and inter-visional councils for dialogues and cooperation. Resource persons traveling with the Caravan will join others in the regions where local committees will have assumed the responsibility of organizing the activities.

In addition to the showing of the documentary 'The Imam and the Pastor' followed by a discussion, there will also be related activities, cultural or others, depending on the local needs.

Pedagogical tool

The documentary film, The Imam and the Pastor, which had its world premiere in English at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, will be the principal pedagogical tool used. This film depicts the reconciliation of two former leaders from opposing armed religious militias who have now joined forces to create bonds of trust between their respective communities. They are presently engaged in this peacemaking venture not only in Nigeria but worldwide wherever ethnic fault lines appear.

The documentary carries two main messages: the first one highlights the challenges faced when dealing with diversity, and more specifically religious diversity; the second one looks into the ethical dimension of forgiveness following a deep inner wound.
